Persian · noun · The Heart & the Body

Afsurdgi

अफ़्सुर्दगी
said af-sur-da-gee
Meaning

Dejection and gloom, the cold, withered heaviness of a spirit gone listless and chilled.

Literally: state of being frozen, faded

Usage & notes

Afsurdgi is the heart grown cold and grey, drained of its fire. Iqbal treats this dejected coldness as a sickness of the self, the opposite of the warm, burning ardour he calls a person to.
