Persian · noun · Nation, Faith & Society

Baadshah

बादशाह
also written: Padshah
Meaning

A king, emperor or monarch.

Literally: Master-king (bad/pad master + shah king).

Usage & notes

Iqbal often subverts the figure of the baadshah, declaring the spiritually awakened free man a truer sovereign than any crowned ruler. Real kingship for him is mastery of the self, not command over subjects.
