Persian · noun · People & Roles
Badshah
बादशाह
said baad-SHAAH
also written: Padshah, Baadshah
Meaning
An emperor or great king; a supreme monarch.
Literally: king; emperor; monarch
Usage & notes
Badshah is the king or emperor. In Iqbal's verse the crowned monarch often stands for borrowed and brittle power, set against the unbought sovereignty of faith and selfhood. He delights in the image of the dervish whose inner kingship outranks the badshah's throne.
