Chingaari

चिंगारी
said chin-gaa-ri
also written: Chingari, chingari, chinghari, spark, ember
Meaning

A spark, an ember thrown off by fire.

Literally: spark, ember

Usage & notes

The chingaari is the spark or live ember in the Hindavi register — the small glow that, hidden in ash, can flare into a great fire if breath or wind reaches it. It carries the folk sense of a tiny beginning with vast latent power. Iqbal's fire-imagery embraces it as the hidden ember of the self and of a people: the small spark that, fanned, can set a whole field ablaze, kin to his sharar that strains toward becoming a flame.
