Persian · noun · Love & Longing

Deedaar

दीदार
also written: Didaar
Meaning

The sight or vision of the beloved; a longed-for beholding.

Literally: Seeing, view.

Usage & notes

Deedaar is the lover's deepest craving — to behold the beloved's face — and in Sufi usage the beatific vision of God. Iqbal treats the yearning for deedaar as the engine that propels the seeking self forward.
