Persian · noun · Iqbal's Emblems

Kabootar

कबूतर
said ka-boo-tar
also written: Kabutar
Meaning

The pigeon or dove, the gentle homing bird of courtyards and shrines.

Usage & notes

The pigeon stands for tameness and dependence, the bird content to circle the dovecote rather than ride the open sky. Iqbal sets such domesticated softness against the wild freedom of the falcon, urging the soul not to live as a pampered captive.
