Usage & notes
Khizan is the autumn — the season of withering, falling leaves and the garden stripped bare, classical emblem of decline, decay, separation and the death of beauty, the dark twin of spring (bahar). It is the going-out of life and colour. Iqbal uses autumn for the decline of communities and the seasons of loss, but insists that even khizan is not final for the rooted self; the believer is summoned to outlast the fall and carry the seed of the next spring through the bare season.
