Jalaluddin Rumi (1207-1273), the great Persian Sufi poet of Konya (Rum), author of the Masnavi, the supreme exemplar of mystical poetry.
How Iqbal uses it
Rumi is the byword for the master Sufi sage and guide; Iqbal in particular took Rumi as his spiritual mentor (his 'pir-e-Rumi'), repeatedly invoking him as the teacher who lights the path of selfhood and love.
