The legendary tyrant-king of the people of Aad who, in defiance of God, built the paradise-garden city of Iram and was destroyed before he could enter it.

Usage & notes

Shaddad is the emblem of godless pride that builds an earthly paradise only to be annihilated; his Iram stands for vain, doomed magnificence raised in rivalry with heaven.
