Arabic · noun · Faith & Sacred History

Shahaadat

शहादत
said sha-haa-DAT
also written: Shahadah, Shahadat
Meaning

Bearing witness; the declaration of faith, and also martyrdom in the cause of God.

Literally: witnessing, testimony

Usage & notes

Iqbal exalts shahaadat in both senses, the testimony of the tongue and the witness of one's life given for the truth. Martyrdom for him is the seal of a faith that values life less than the cause it serves.
