Tajdeed
तजदीद
said taj-DEED
also written: Tajdid, tajdid, tajdeed, mujaddid
Meaning
Renewal, renovation, revival of religion.
Literally: renewal; revival
Usage & notes
Religious renewal — the revival and reform of the faith, classically associated with the mujaddid, the "renewer" believed to arise to restore Islam in each age. Iqbal stood squarely in this reformist current: he called for a tajdeed of religious thought, a fresh ijtihad and a reawakening of the community's creative energies, against the stagnation he diagnosed in inherited custom and dead imitation.
