Aansu

A tear; tears.

Literally: tear, teardrop

Aansu is the tear — the lover's endless weeping for the absent or unkind beloved, the ghazal's most constant water. The eye is a fountain, the tears are pearls, are blood, are a flood that drowns the lover in his own grief. These tears are no mere sorrow but a treasured proof of love; the dry-eyed have not truly loved, and the lover almost boasts of the rivers his longing has wept.
