Didah

The eye; the seeing eye, often in compounds of vision and longing.

Literally: eye, the seeing eye

Deeda is the eye, with a leaning toward the eye as the organ of seeing and of tears — the lover's eye that has wept itself raw watching for the beloved. The phrase deeda-e-tar (the wet eye) is a fixture of the lyric. In the contemplative register it is the inner eye, the sight that must be cleansed and opened before it can bear the vision (deedar) it longs for.
