Ahd
An epoch or era; also a covenant or pledge.
Literally: Arabic 'ahd: a time period; a binding promise.
Ahd is a covenant — the solemn pledge that binds a person to a promise or to God. Iqbal weights the keeping of one's covenant heavily: faith itself is figured as a primordial pledge, and to break one's word is to fracture the self that gave it. He treats fidelity to covenant as a load-bearing virtue, the thread on which both personal honour and communal trust hang.
