Persian · noun · Character & Virtue

Wafadari

वफ़ादारी
said wa-faa-DAA-ree
also written: wafadari, wafadaari, vafadari
Meaning

Loyalty, fidelity, the quality of keeping faith.

Literally: faithfulness, steadfast loyalty

Usage & notes

Wafadari is sustained loyalty — fidelity carried steadily over time and trial. Iqbal sees in it the integrity of a self that keeps faith with its bonds whatever the temptation to betray. He contrasts the loyal heart, true to love and covenant, with the turncoat who abandons allegiance for gain, and reads steadfast loyalty as a quiet proof of a whole and honourable self.
