Armaan is heartfelt longing — the cherished wish, the dream nursed in the breast, warmer and more hopeful than the wistful hasrat. It is desire still alive and reaching, the lover's bright aspiration for the beloved or for a longed-for life. Unfulfilled, armaan curdles toward hasrat; but in itself it is the forward-leaning hope of the heart, the wanting that gives life its direction.
