Bahar is the spring — the season of bloom and renewal, the garden's fullness of flower, scent and song, classical emblem of youth, joy, and the world at its most alive, set always against khizan, the autumn of withering. It is life at flood. Iqbal uses spring for revival and the flourishing of a people or a soul, but warns that a borrowed or passing bahar is not enough; he seeks the self-renewing spring that does not merely arrive and fade with the season.
