Persian · adjective · The Heart & the Body

Bekal

बेकल
said be-kal
also written: Be-kal
Meaning

Restless and disquieted, unable to find rest or repose, the heart in agitation.

Literally: without repose, restless

Usage & notes

To be bekal is to be denied all rest, the heart turning ceaselessly in unease. Iqbal reads this restlessness sympathetically, the disquiet of a soul too alive and longing to lie still.
