Dagh

A scar, mark, or stain; figuratively a lasting grief or blemish of shame ('dagh-e-judai', the scar of separation).

Literally: a scar, brand, burn-mark (on the heart)

Daagh is the scar or brand on the lover's heart — the dark mark left by love's fire, worn almost as an ornament. The ghazal multiplies these scars like flowers in a garden: each grief leaves its daagh, and the breast becomes a field of them. The lover boasts of his scars rather than hiding them, for each is a proof of how much and how long he has loved.
