Meaning
A warrior for the faith; a title taken by Muslim sovereigns who waged war in the name of Islam.
Literally: a victorious warrior; one who returns from battle
Usage & notes
The ghazi is the warrior who survives the fight and returns victorious, the living counterpart to the shaheed who falls. Iqbal pairs the two as twin fruits of the same striving, both ennobled by the cause rather than the killing. For him the honour of the ghazi lies in fighting for truth and freedom, not in spoils or domination.
