Persian · noun · Nature & the Garden

Ghuncha

ग़ुंचा
said GHUN-cha
also written: Ghoncha
Meaning

A flower-bud, especially a tightly furled rosebud not yet open.

Usage & notes

The ghuncha is the closed, potential self, the heart not yet unfolded; its blooming (shiguftagi) into a full flower is Iqbal's image of the latent ego coming into realisation. The bud's reticence and the flower's openness map onto stages of the soul.
