Arabic · noun · Love & Longing

Jamal

जमाल
said ja-MAAL
also written: jamal, jamaal
Meaning

Beauty, grace, splendor; the divine or human beauty that draws the lover's gaze.

Literally: beauty; divine gentleness

Usage & notes

The Beauty of God — His attributes of grace, gentleness, mercy and loveliness, the complement to jalal (majesty). In Sufi vision the world manifests both, and the heart is drawn to God by beholding His jamal. Iqbal honours beauty and love as drawing-forces of the spirit, while insisting they be wedded to strength so that contemplation of beauty does not soften into passivity.
