The jugnu is the firefly that carries its own small lamp through the dark — the modest self-made light that owes nothing to sun or moon. Classically it is a humble glimmer, even a figure of presumption beside greater lights. Iqbal warms to exactly this: the firefly's borrowed-from-no-one glow becomes an emblem close to khudi — be your own light however small, for a self-kindled spark is worth more than reflected splendour.
