Persian · noun · Nature & the Garden

Khizaan

ख़िज़ाँ
said khi-zaan
also written: Khazan
Meaning

Autumn, the season of withering when leaves fall and the garden fades.

Usage & notes

Khizaan is the figure of decay, decline, and the dying of a civilization's garden, the cold counterpart to spring. Iqbal sets it against bahaar to dramatize the fall of a people and the hope that autumn is not the end but the eve of renewal.
