ख़्वाब
said KHWAAB
also written: Khwaab, Khab, khwab, khaab, khwaab-e
Meaning

A dream; also sleep or an unrealized hope.

Literally: dream, sleep

Usage & notes

Khwaab is the dream — and in love poetry, the only place the parted lover may meet the beloved freely, the sleep in which longing is briefly answered. The ghazal makes a poignant theme of it: the beloved who comes only in dreams, the waking that steals her away again, the lover who courts sleep just to see that face. In Iqbal's wider symbolism khwaab also means the sleep of heedlessness from which the self must be roused — dream as both sweet refuge and dangerous slumber.
