Maqta

मक़ता
Meaning

The closing couplet of a ghazal, usually containing the poet's pen-name.

Literally: place of cutting (the end)

Usage & notes

In the maqta the poet signs and seals the ghazal, often turning the lens on himself. Iqbal used the closing couplet to clinch the poem's argument.
