Mehr

मेहर
said MEHR
also written: mihr, meher, mehr-e
Meaning

The sun (also, by another root, love and kindness).

Literally: Persian mihr: the sun; anciently the deity of light and covenant.

Usage & notes

Mehr means loving-kindness and affection — the warm tenderness between beloved and lover, the gentleness that answers the heart's need. The same word also means the sun, and poets play on the double sense: the beloved's mehr (kindness) is like the mehr (sun) that warms and gives life. In contrast to the beloved's frequent coldness, mehr is the longed-for warmth, the affection that makes the lover bloom.
