Khurshid

The sun.

Literally: sun

Khurshid is the Persian name for the sun, a loftier, more poetic synonym for aaftab — the blazing orb of day, source of all the sky's light, emblem of supreme radiance and the self-luminous. It carries an ancient, almost regal grandeur. Iqbal uses it within the same imagery as aaftab: the sun as the giver of its own light, the high pattern for a self that would shine from within rather than reflect another's fire.
