Arabic · noun · Spirit & the Divine
Qurbat
क़ुर्बत
said qur-BAT
also written: qurbat, qurbate
Meaning
Nearness and closeness, especially the coveted proximity to God.
Literally: nearness, proximity
Usage & notes
Qurbat is nearness — the simple grace of being close to the beloved, short of full union. It is the warmth of presence: to sit within reach, to breathe the same air. In the spiritual register qurbat is proximity to the Divine, the station of those drawn near; Iqbal honors a closeness that does not abolish the self but lets it stand, awake, before its Beloved.
