Arabic · noun · Spirit & the Divine

Qurb

क़ुर्ब
said QURB
also written: qurb, qurub, qurb-e-ilahi
Meaning

Nearness to God; the proximity the seeker attains through devotion and love.

Literally: nearness; proximity (to God)

Usage & notes

Nearness to God — the goal of the spiritual life, the drawing-close of the servant to his Lord. Iqbal makes qurb, rather than self-annihilation, the true summit of the path: the self does not vanish into God but attains an ever-deepening, conscious intimacy with Him. This conception lets him affirm union and individuality at once.
