Shaairi is poetry, the art of composing verse. For Iqbal shaairi is a sacred trust rather than entertainment: he held that poetry which merely amuses or enervates betrays its calling, while true poetry kindles life, courage, and conviction. He measured his own verse by whether it moved a people to rise.
