Tamkeen

तमकीन
said tam-KEEN
also written: Tamkin, tamkeen, tamkin, tamkín
Meaning

Stability and firm establishment in spiritual states, the settled mastery of an advanced seeker.

Literally: stability, dignified composure and authority

Usage & notes

Tamkeen is settled dignity — the grave composure and inner stability of a self firmly established in itself. In the Sufi vocabulary Iqbal draws on, it names the steadiness that succeeds the restless states of the seeker, a poised authority of spirit. He values this established firmness as the bearing of a mature, self-possessed soul that is no longer tossed about by every passing state.
