Tasallut

Domination, sway or control imposed over others.

Literally: mastery, dominion, ascendancy

Tasallut is mastery or dominion — holding sway over something. In Iqbal's ethics the worthy form is self-mastery and command over one's own forces, the inner sovereignty of khudi; he is wary of domination over others when it becomes mere oppression. He prizes the self that first conquers itself, for only the soul that rules its own passions can rightly act in the world.
