Tishnagi
Thirst, craving; the unquenched thirst of the lover for the beloved.
Literally: thirst
Tishnagi is thirst — and in the lyric, the unquenched thirst of the lover for the beloved, of the seeker for the longed-for water of nearness. It names desire as a parched, bodily ache, the dry mouth of one kept from the cup. The Sufi prizes the thirst itself: better the burning want that keeps the seeker moving than a contentment that would end the search; in Iqbal too, the unslaked thirst is the very sign of a living, seeking soul.
