Tofang (Persian for musket or gun; bandooq in Urdu) names the firearm that displaced the sword. Iqbal sometimes invokes it to mark how modern force has changed, but his deeper argument is unchanged: weapons are worthless without an inner fire and a just cause behind them. Mere armament, he warns, cannot save a people whose spirit is enslaved.
