Zikr

The remembrance of God — repeating His names or formulae — a central Sufi practice meant to polish the heart and keep it conscious of the Divine. Iqbal honours zikr as inward discipline but characteristically pairs it with fikr (reflection) and amal (action), warning against a remembrance that becomes mere ritual or an excuse for withdrawal from the world.
