The disciplined journey along the mystical path toward God, the seeker's progressive purification and ascent through stations. Iqbal embraces the idea of a strenuous inner journey but reorients its destination: the wayfaring should yield a stronger, more God-conscious and creative self ready to act in the world, not a traveller who has merely escaped it.
Saalik
A traveller on the Sufi path, one who journeys toward God.
Tariqat
The mystical path or Sufi order; the inward way toward God, contrasted with the outward law.
Mukam
A station, halting-place, or place of stay; a position or rank.
Salik
A traveler on the mystical path; the spiritual wayfarer under the guidance of a master.
Maqaam
A spiritual station or stage attained by the seeker on the Sufi path through effort.
Murshid
A spiritual guide or master who directs the disciple along the path to God.
