Arabic · noun · Spirit & the Divine

Tariqat

तरीक़त
said ta-ree-QAT
also written: Tariqa, Tariqah
Meaning

The mystical path or spiritual way of the Sufis, leading inward toward God.

Literally: the way, the road

Usage & notes

Iqbal valued the inner journey of tariqat but criticized the world-renouncing passivity into which much later Sufism had fallen. He wanted the spiritual path to make the self stronger, not dissolve it.
