Meaning
The fire of longing, the blazing passion of desire that burns within the seeker's heart.
Literally: fire of longing
How Iqbal uses it
Aatish-e-shauq is desire pictured as a literal fire in the breast. Iqbal makes this flame the heat of the awakened self, the burning longing that, far from being quenched, should be fed until it lights the whole life.
See it in the verse
Aatish-e-shauq in Iqbal’s couplets
Mana ki teri deed ke qabil nahin hoon main
Tu mera shauq dekh mera intizar dekh
Tu mera shauq dekh mera intizar dekh
Granted, I am not yet worthy of the sight of you — but look at my longing, look at how I wait.
