Persian · noun · Nature & the Garden

Abr

अब्र
said abr
also written: abr, cloud
Meaning

A cloud, the mass of vapour that brings shade and rain to the parched earth.

Literally: cloud

Usage & notes

The abr is the cloud — bearer of rain and so of mercy and grace, the giver that withholds or pours; classically the 'abr-e-karam,' the cloud of bounty, and the 'abr-e-bahar,' the spring cloud that revives the garden. It can also veil the sun or weep across the sky. Iqbal uses the rain-cloud as an image of generous outpouring and of the grace that makes the dry self bloom, the bounty that descends so the seed may rise.
