Persian · noun · The Heart & the Body

Bekhwaabi

बेख़्वाबी
said be-khwaa-bee
also written: Be-khwaabi
Meaning

Sleeplessness, the wakeful nights of a heart kept restless by longing, grief, or thought.

Literally: sleeplessness, want of sleep

Usage & notes

Bekhwaabi is the lover's and the seeker's wakefulness, the night that will not bring rest to a stirred heart. Iqbal honours such sleepless vigilance, for the wakeful soul is closer to its quest than the one drowsy with ease.
