Meaning

Devoted to the point of self-sacrifice; ready to give one's life.

Literally: Ransom, that which is given to redeem.

How Iqbal uses it

Fida is the lover's readiness to be sacrificed for the beloved. It feeds directly into Iqbal's heroic ethic, where love proves itself by willing self-expenditure.
