Sarfaroshi is the willingness to offer one's very life for a cause held dearer than life. Iqbal exalts this readiness to sacrifice as the supreme expression of love and faith: the self reaches its height not by clinging to existence but by spending itself for something greater. He treats fearless self-offering as proof that the self has transcended mere self-preservation.
