Literally: sacrifice, offering up what one loves
Qurbaani is sacrifice — the surrender of something precious, even the self, for a higher purpose. Iqbal weaves it into his ethics of love and devotion: real attachment proves itself by what it will give up, and the self grows by the act of spending rather than saving. He treats sacrifice not as loss but as the costly fire through which faith and selfhood are tempered.
