Arabic · noun · Character & Virtue

Isaar

ईसार
said ee-SAAR
also written: Eesaar, isaar, isar, ithar, eesar
Meaning

Self-sacrifice, preferring others over oneself; altruistic giving.

Literally: selfless giving, preferring others to oneself

Usage & notes

Isaar is self-sacrificing generosity — putting another's need above one's own. Iqbal honours it as the warm, outward face of a strong self: true selfhood is not selfishness but overflows in giving, spending itself for others without counting the cost. He treats the readiness to prefer others as a mark of moral wealth, the social fruit of a self secure in itself.
