Literally: staking one's life, reckless courage to die for a cause
Jaan-baazi is gambling one's life — the daring that risks everything for love or for a sacred end. Iqbal admires this fearless wagering of the self as a sign of a living, ardent spirit; the lover and the warrior of faith hold life cheap before their purpose. He prizes the heat of such self-risking far above the cold prudence that hoards its safety.
