Shahadat
Witnessing, testimony; the realm of the seen as opposed to the unseen; also martyrdom.
Literally: bearing witness; martyrdom
Bearing witness — both the testimony of faith (the shahadah, "there is no god but God") and the supreme witness of martyrdom, dying in God's cause. Iqbal exalts the martyr's death as the highest affirmation of the self rather than its loss: the shahid who gives his life for truth perfects his khudi and wins immortality, making martyrdom the seal of a life of faith and action.
Shahid
A witness; also, in Sufi verse, the beautiful beloved who witnesses to divine beauty.
Ghaib
The unseen; the hidden realm of God, spirits, and realities beyond human sight.
Shaheed
A martyr; one who dies for the faith or a noble cause.
Jihad
Struggle or striving, especially in the way of God; effort against evil, within or without.
Khudi
Selfhood; the self, the ego — in the philosophical, not the vain, sense.
Baqa
Abiding, subsistence in God; the state of renewed being that follows fana in Sufi thought.
