The devil of Islamic tradition, who refused to bow to Adam out of pride and was cast out.

Iqbal gives Iblees a strangely powerful voice, the proud rebel who scorns mere obedience and even goads the believer to greater striving, as in his Council of Iblees. The devil becomes a foil that tests and sharpens the meaning of true faith.
