Usage & notes
Izzat is honour — the dignity a person bears and the respect it commands. Iqbal makes the keeping of one's izzat a duty of the self: he teaches that true honour comes from within, from faith and self-respect, and cannot be conferred or revoked by the powerful. He scorns the borrowed honour of those who seek esteem through servility, and locates real dignity in khudi.
