Arabic · noun · Nature & the Garden

Naseem

नसीम
said na-seem
also written: nasim, breeze, Nasim
Meaning

A soft, fragrant breeze, the gentle cool air of morning.

Literally: gentle breeze

Usage & notes

The naseem is the soft, sweet-scented breeze, especially of morning — close kin to the saba, it lifts the perfume of the garden and brushes the flowers awake. It is coolness, gentleness and the breath that carries fragrance. Iqbal uses it for the tender stirring of air that quickens and revives, the mild wind set against the storm (aandhi) he sometimes prefers for shaking the world.
